Novel writing, publishing and Royalties

Gifted or Talented
There are people who are undoubtedly gifted or talented if you want to see it that way. Just the way all human faces are never the same. However, there are some who can be covetous to a particular vision.  I will explain, you may not have written more than a page before but somehow you have the desire to be a writer or an author, and this determination burns within you and suddenly you want to just do it, no matter what it takes. And then the dream swells and then you start looking for tips and research materials that will lunch you into fulfilling a dream that originally wasn’t yours but determination and love drove you into it. That is what I call or describe as force of determination. It is true not everybody have it, I mean this kind of drive but it does help to fulfill ones dream.
Now listen, you have a story to tell, everybody does but not everybody is an author or writer. Having a story to tell is the ultimate, without a story there can be no book! The story has to be compiled into pages that will eventually make up a book. Whether a small or big book, it is all about your interest or goal. How lengthen is your story? How effectively can you be able to relate it to your audience and make it so real like the skin in your body? How good are you to systematically develop your content to make it readable and attractive?
Now having a story to tell is extremely important. I think that is exactly where some persons with a writer’s ambition get really weak. Some have the story but don’t know how to relate it or even start. And others do have the story but don’t even dare because of poor educational background, lack of interest and all that. Interestingly those who are gifted may not even venture into writing throughout their life time, simply because they fail to discover their hidden talent or gift. Is it really hidden? I really don’t think so because it is what you are good at you eventually follow. For instance, I have seen qualified medical doctors turn film makers and all that, just because they have satisfaction in their talent.

Now the amazing secrets of writing, the facts and techniques

You must have a story to share or tell to the world, this is important.
Many people have stories to tell but never thought to share it on the pages of books for the world to read perhaps they feel it is not important or necessary and that is, the beginning of incompetence which of course will certainly not yield result. Now having a story to tell is the first step in the right direction. It doesn’t matter the content of the story, what matters most is that you got a story, and how you will put that down gradually is what, I am going to show you now.
Let’s say you got a story about how two lovers broke up because their parent never approved their relationship and somehow, they became adventurous and escaped from the city to be together. You may choose to have a title right away like this one, let’s say: The adventurous Lovers, The forbidden price, Lovers & Sacrifice and all that, just a name that will depict its content somehow, but not necessarily.
You must have an outline. That is how you want the book (novel) to look like. I mean the content layout. Let’s begin like this, how many casts or characters are you using to tell your story?
You must know this right from the inception so you know how to guild your content carefully. You can choose the names of your characters and start marching them up with their roles on a rough sheet. Afterwards you start developing the scenes base on the story you have at hand. The scenes you eventually develop will determine how lengthen your book will be. I can write up to a thousand or more pages if I want to. For example, one of my novels, Twisted World was close to a thousand pages. I had to break it into three parts. You may want to ask, why? Actually the cost of printing is getting on the high and that put the price of your book on the high too. That makes your book almost difficult for more people to afford. And that simply means you won’t be happy because aside the money, your primary interest to have millions of people around the globe read your book is ultimately defeated. So the length of a book matters a lot. Interestingly a story that can be told in 1000 pages can also be told in less than 500pages, so you see, the knife is in your hands. I believe it is great writing a book between a 100 to 500 pages to make it affordable. I actually prefer 150 to 250 pages and that way, I get everybody afford my book since the price will not put a hole in their pockets.
Some authors believe when their books are placed between $6 and above it simply show they are a better writer and to me, that is not true because, I have read severally books that are far less the price $6, and have great stories and all that. I think sometimes, few authors that have their book cost much have no control on the price because the printing cost is almost swallowing everything even almost eating deep into the little royalty they will eventually have for each book sold.
Now let’s go back to where we are, about developing your scenes. This scene must be built into chapters essentially. You determine how many scene(s) will be developed in the various chapters. For examples chapter one can have 6-9scenes, chapter two may have 8-9 scenes or more. As I said before the knife is in your hands, you determine or decide how many scenes will be in a chapter. Now, you must ensure your story line flows that means there must be no confusion in the connectivity and again ensure the names of characters are correct and no error included. I will explain, let’s say Jean is one of your cast or character and you mistakenly used Jones in one chapter and Jean in another, that is an grievous error. The flow won’t be there and that keeps your readers wondering who Jones is? And again if the name changes often along the line mistakenly too, all these kill the flow of the novel. So you must be absolutely careful. That’s why people say writing novel isn’t easy but I say to you, you can if only you have the will to go about it and that is why I am doing this for you, to encourage you to press the buttons and get it done. Some people write a book in two years or less, while others even take longer time. The timing isn’t the issue, the issue is the quality of the story, it originality (I mean the way and manner it is presented), the flow and all necessary ingredients that will make everybody applaud it.
Alright, let’s go on. The number of chapters you have determines how far you can go with the story’s content. Some novel can have 7 chapters with 350 pages while others may have 12 chapters and have 250 pages.
Then if you have got that done, I mean finish writing the scenes in each chapters as arranged by you, you can proceed to writing about author and that simply means about yourself. You can pick up two or three novels and see how other authors did their and then write yours. All this was actually done manually, and then you have to type it, using Microsoft word to get it almost ready for publication.
It is really that easy but one thing I must not forget to tell you is that you must have some persons read your book before it is finally published. Why? To help you check out for typos, check the content relativity and then generally editing the work but certainly not affecting or changing your content.

Final Base:
Where will you publish, I call final base. Some publish locally while others who really want the world to read their books publish internationally. Locally, you have to look out for publishing companies around you but internationally you can surf the web and find publishers some who are willing to give you all the necessary assistance to get you published.
I published locally and internationally. Interestingly, I use lulu publisher, simply because I can follow the do it yourself software pretty well. That doesn’t mean it is cheap because you still have to get a cover designer to design your cover arts and it cost between $100- $450.  Just like what you will see on my web store.
You can visit my Web store and see several cover designs of my published books.  http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/emmanuelabraham

But if you can do itself that would be nice or get it done free for you by a friend who has the skill that also will be cool too. Perhaps for a starter you may not find it funny. However, I encourage you to browse the net for publishers who can get you published and respect your right and give you good royalties for your hard work. Publish America is also a good place to start. I have not work with them but have followed them enough to think they are competent to give you what you want. However, beware of greedy publisher who will like a higher royalty’s percentage.
When you get finally published, you may have to promote your book but some traditional publishers can do that for you. But you must do something to publicize your work, and that helps the spread.
I will like to say here that you can easily and immediately download my books here: http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/emmanuelabraham
The books are very affordable and I never gave it a thought to make so much profit out of them despite the huge finances and time, I pumped into it. If you ask me why, I’ll simply say, I am more interested about the fame as one of the best author around in my generation.
Please do me a favor and glance through the synopsis, shop

Well, I may have to stop here, any comment(s) let me have them, and I will read all of it.
Thanks for your time; I wish you the best in your endeavor.

This is Emmanuel Abraham, signing out.
